Honda Activa EV’s Electric Motor Teased Revealing Details

The electric drivetrain and other critical components will be brand new for India. The Honda Activa EV will be offered in multiple variants including the base drum and disc versions. While the performance details have not been revealed, we do expect the power and torque outputs to be similar to the 110-125 cc scooters. The teaser also gives glimpses of a drum setup and a monoshock suspension at the rear.

It will also get a single-piece seat. The Activa EV will likely compete with the Ola S1 series, Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube and Ather Rizta in the highly demanding zero-emission scooter space. The overall ride range could be around 100 km per charge in real-world conditions. The previous teaser showed the existence of an LED headlamp and the rear lighting may also get LED treatment.

Unlike the headlamp on the ICE Activa 6G, which features a higher set positioning, the EV’s headlamp seems to be mounted on the apron. The overall design is expected to be entirely new, aiming to establish a unique identity separate from India’s best-selling IC-engined scooter. Production of the electric model is likely to begin next month at the brand’s Karnataka facility. Honda is expected to begin bookings for the Activa Electric in February 2025, with deliveries following shortly after. While Japanese manufacturers have been cautious about entering India’s rapidly growing electric scooter market, the launch of the Activa Electric later this month is set to heighten the competition.

Honda electric scooter will come in three colors: Pearl Jubilee White, Matte Gunpowder Black Metallic, and Premium Silver Metallic. Given that electric scooters are much more popular than electric cars, and Honda is among the most popular two-wheeler brands in the country, it makes a lot of sense for the company to foray into the market.
