The new MG Windsor EV is getting more popular with each passing month. While it was the largest-selling electric car in India in October and November, it emerged as the best-seller in December, beating all the models from rival carmakers.
JSW MG Motor India claimed that the Windsor EV maintained its top position in the electric passenger vehicle segment for the third consecutive month with sales of 3,785 units.
The MG Windsor EV was the segment leader in October with sales of 3,116 units. It was again the chart-topper in November at 3,144 units.
In three months, the Windsor EV has crossed sales of 10,000 units, clocking 10,045 units in total. These are handsome figures for a new model as the electric car segment is still nascent in India, accounting for less than 3% of the total cars sold in the domestic market.
Priced between Rs 13.50 lakh and Rs 15.50 lakh (ex-showroom), the MG Windsor EV has a claimed range of 332km (ARAI-certified) on a single full charge. Under the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, the vehicle can be had for Rs 9.99 lakh + Rs 3.5 per kilometre battery rental.
While the MG Windsor EV has no direct rival, the electric car segment does have a few budget models like the Tata Tiago.ev, Tata Punch.ev, Tata Nexon.ev, Tata Curvv.ev, Mahindra XUV400 and Citroen E-C3.
Launched in September, the Windsor EV’s customer deliveries started in October. Apart from the Windsor EV, JSW MG also sells the Comet EV and the ZS EV.
In December, JSW MG recorded sales of 7,516 units, witnessing a growth of 55% year-on-year (y-o-y). EVs accounted for over 70% of the total cars sold by the company during the month.
Apart from electric cars, JSW MG sells internal combustion engine (ICE) models like the Astor, Hector and Gloste.
